3 Things You Need to Know About TDIU

Total Disability Based on Individual Unemployability (TDIU) is essential if you are unable to work due to a service connected disability. TDIU is a monthly payment from the VA made to veterans whose service-related disability presents them from holding a job. Here are 3 things you should know about TDIU benefits:

  1. Any disability that is service connected that prevents you from working and earning a living may qualify you to receive TDIU benefits. Disabilities can include: traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mental impairments, toxic exposure, physical impairments, etc.
  2. You must fill out and send in a Form-21-8940 to apply for TDIU benefits. If you’re denied you must appeal your claim within one year.
  3. TDIU benefits currently pay a minimum of $2,906.83 per month to veterans.
