Are You Receiving All the VA Benefits You Deserve?

Veterans deserve world-class care as compensation for the sacrifices they have made on behalf of our country. Whether you are preparing to finish your career in the military or you returned to civilian life years ago, you have the right to access a wide range of benefits provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs and other government services. These include benefits related to:

  • Healthcare — All veterans qualify for basic healthcare provided by the VA. Certain veterans are also eligible for additional benefits, such as dental care. Eligibility depends on a number of factors, including your priority group, the advice of your VA primary care provider, and the medical standards for treating your conditions.
  • Education — The GI Bill exists to help veterans pay tuition for college, graduate school and training programs. The amount of money you receive depends on whether you attend a public or private school. Stipends are available for housing, books and supplies.
  • Disability compensation — Veterans who are disabled due to an injury suffered in or made worse by their military service can apply for monthly VA disability compensation benefits.
  • Pension — Disabled veterans, veterans living in nursing homes, and veterans age 65 or older are able to collect need-based pension benefits. To be eligible, you must also meet certain service requirements.
  • Home loans —The VA makes home loans to veterans and also partially guarantees loans provided by private lenders. Loans can be used to build, buy, refurbish or refinance a home.
  • Business loans — As long as certain requirements are met, a former service member may register their venture as a Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) or Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). These businesses receive a number of advantages, including tax relief, priority when bidding on government contracts, and better access to capital.
  • Job training — The VA’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP) helps veterans pursue their post-service career goals and provides career guidance and training. The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program helps disabled veterans learn new skills, find jobs and launch businesses.
  • Life insurance — Veterans may enroll in Veterans’ Group Life Insurance within one year and 120 days of their date of separation, and eligibility is not based on health.
  • Burial — Veterans who were honorably discharged may qualify for burial in a national VA cemetery. The VA can also help pay for burial costs, provide a headstone, and care for the gravesite.

The spouses, children and other dependents of veterans may also qualify to receive certain benefits from the VA.
